Jack E. Trelford, age 89, of Chatham, died, Monday, June 3, 2019 at UP Health Systems – Marquette. He was born in Ishpeming, MI on June 8, 1929, to the late Hilda (Pajunen) and J. Trelford. Jack was a member of the Eben High School class of 1947. He entered the United States Army in August of 1947 and was assigned to the motor pool where he was an automotive mechanic and was stationed in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Jack was awarded the Army of Occupational Medal Japan and the WWII Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in June of 1949. Jack worked as a diesel mechanic foreman at Listener Medal in Chicago Miller Motor Service in Burlington, IL. Jack reconnected and then married high school classmate Alice Laakso in 1984. Together they were sports enthusiast always cheering for the Green Bay Packers and Michigan Wolverines. Aside from cheering on his teams, Jack loved to read, fixing all things mechanical, and spending time with his four-legged companion Fritz.
Jack is survived by his son – Mike (Linda) Trelford of Fox River Grove, IL; son-in-law – Joseph Hessinger of Pinetop, AZ; grandsons – Joey (Katie) Hessinger and Jack H. Trelford; great-grandchildren - Aubrey and Matthew Hessinger. He was preceded in death by his wife – Alice Trelford; parents - Hilda and Jim; son – Tom Trelford; daughter – Michelle “Shelly” Hessinger; and grandson – Matt Hessinger.
A graveside service will be on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham at 11:00 a.m. Military honors will be preformed by the American Legion and Vietnam Veteran Honor Guard and Pastor Paul Kelto will conclude with committal prayers. A luncheon will follow at Sion Lutheran Church.
