He was born on June 19, 1940 in Munising to the late Clifford and Margaret (Perry) Witty. Jack attended Wm. G. Mather High School and left school to join the U.S. Navy. He served from 1960-1966 as an Engineman Petty Officer 3rd Class. Jack was on the YFM B12 Cable Laying Barge in Bermuda and the USS Mosopelea out of Norfolk and near Cuba. He was honorably discharged in Panama City, Florida and slowly made his way back home, stopping to work along the way. Jack worked forty-two years as a millwright and mechanic on heavy equipment. When he retired, he was a Master Technician in the diesel field. Jack raised his family in the home he built on Monette Road. He met Roberta “Bertie” (Golisek) Giese, and they spent over thirty years together camping in the summertime and spending time together without an argument. He made and gave away military plaques, birdhouses, windmills, and Sasquatches. Jack was a strong, kind, and generous servant.
