James "Jim" Allen Gerou

James A. "Jim" Gerou, age 59, of 602 Bell Avenue, Munising, died at 4:40 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2013 at Marquette General Hospital following a four month illness. He was born on January 29, 1954 in Munising to Stanley and Adeline (Lenius) Gerou, Sr. Jim graduated from Sacred Heart School and then from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1972. He attended Central Michigan University and then returned home to Munising. Jim went to work with his dad and drove a logging truck for him. He then ventured out on his own. Jim was active in the formation of the Independent Trucking Association while he was driving his truck. Jimmy married Terry Peters on August 18, 1984. They became entrepreneurs together through many different businesses including: Island View Estates Trailer Park, Horseshoe Falls, Gerou Storage, Big Springs State Park and Tahquamenon Shores. Jim was very active in the community. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, bowled in league, golfed and served on the board at Pictured Rocks Golf Course, served on the City Commission and Chamber of Commerce, was a past member of the Lions, played baseball in his younger days, and truly enjoyed being with his family and friends. Jim was a Green Bay Packer fan and he enjoyed spending winter months in The Villages in Florida. He loved being a Papa to his grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his wife - Terry of Munising; children - Dustin (Stephanie Glass) Gerou of Parker, CO and Brittany (Dale Morrison) Gerou of Iron Mountain, MI; grandchildren - Halley, Corey and Alex; sister - Nancy Fulcher of Munising; brother - Stanley (Chris) Gerou II of Munising; mother-in-law - Eleanor Peters of Munising; sisters and brothers-in-law - Kim (Mark) Steinke of Camas, WA, Carla (Dan) Hermes of New London, WI and Pat (Sheila) Peters of Munising; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Adeline, infant brother Timmy, brother-in-law Raymond Fulcher, and father-in-law Leo Peters.
Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Sunday, December 22, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. At 8:00 p.m. a vigil service will be held where there will be a time for family and friends to share memories. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Chris Gardiner on Monday, December 23, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Munising. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising in the spring. Jim will be escorted by Paddy Malone, Joe Ackerman, Tom Daniels, Tim Spaulding, Bill LaFave, Larry Johnson, Randy Johnson and Kevin Burke.
