James "Jim" John Grogis, age 74, of E4211 M-28, AuTrain, died at his home on Monday morning, April 11, 2011 under the loving care of his family and Lake Superior Hospice. He was born on April 29, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan to Victor and May (Kutchman) Grogis. Jim grew up in Warren and graduated from Lincoln High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the 82nd Airborne. Jim did some carpentry work before beginning employment with the Warren City Police in 1957. On April 15, 1961, he married Estelle Lipski and they raised their two children together. Jim retired from the police force in 1985 after serving the City of Warren as a Patrolman and a Court Officer. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Jim and Estelle moved to the Upper Peninsula in 2000 to be closer to their daughter. He was a gunsmith and talented carpenter. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, repairing old clocks, building furniture and picture frames, raising exotic pheasants, and taxidermy.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years - Estelle Grogis of AuTrain; daughter and son-in-law - Nadine and Jerry Murphy of Marquette; son and daughter-in-law - Ron and Danielle Grogis of Lyndeborough, New Hampshire; and grandsons - John James "JJ" Grogis and Robert "Bobby" Grogis. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sister Rosalie and brothers Victor and Gerald.
No public services will be held and memorials in memory of Jim are requested to Lake Superior Hospice.
