James E. Hoffins, age 65, of Glendale Heights, IL and formerly of Munising died April 19, 2009. He was born May 27, 1943 to Joe and Ethel (Baij) Hoffins in Munising. Jim graduated from William G. Mather in 1961. After graduation he entered the Army National Guard. He married Ruth Sitterding of Bay City, MI on November 1, 1969. Jim worked as a Machinist and Utility Man at International Harvester which became Navistar for over forty-two years in Melrose Park, IL. He enjoyed bowling, cooking, and gardening. Jim's favorite thing to do was to vacation at his cabin on Ostrander Lake. Even though he lived in the Chicago area for many years, he was always a true Yooper at heart.
Jim is survived by his wife of over thirty-nine years - Ruth Hoffins of Glendale Heights, IL; children - Pamela (William) Doll, Robert (Jennifer) Trichie, Lisa Lybold, James (Dori) Hoffins, and Lorie (Frank) Sherwin; grandchildren - Justina, Jeremy, Melanie, Peter, Sarah, Andrew, and one more on the way; siblings - Ruth Ann Barton and Robert Hoffins. He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Ethel.
Jim's visitation will be on Monday, July 20, 2009at Eden Lutheran Church in Munising from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery.
