James “Jim” Lowe
July 23, 1940 – March 19, 2025
Jim Lowe passed away at 1:13 pm March 19, 2025. He was born to Bill and Dorothy (Blight) Lowe, July 23, 1940, in Eagle River, Michigan. He attended school in a one room school house with his friend Paul, until he was 12. He spent his summers finding agates and selling them to tourists on the Eagle River Bridge. In the winter he took his ice skates to school with him and played hockey every chance he could.
When Jim was 12 most of the copper mines were shutting down and he moved to Detroit with his parents for a short while. They ended up settling in Clarkston, Michigan, where he attended and graduated from Clarkston High school. He continued to play hockey, and acquired a love for fast cars.
Jim met Juanita Bilyeu and they married in August 1961. Rod was born in 1962 and Todd in 1964. The boys could not have asked for a better Dad. He built them a mini bike, spent countless hours with them, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and vacationing in Grand Marais, Michigan. In 1984 Jim had a house built in Grand Marais, Michigan. He retired from General Motors in 1991 and moved to Grand Marais full time.
Jim is survived by countless friends, his wife Juanita “Wendy”, son Rod (Maura) Lowe, his daughter Penny Cremer, granddaughter Brook and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Dorothy, son Todd, grandson Jayson and best friend and cousin Bob Medlyn.
A celebration of life will be held at the Dune Saloon at a later date. Interment will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery.
