Shingleton
James "Jim" Shubert, age 59, of Shingleton, died following a ten month illness on Sunday afternoon, October 23, 2011 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. He was born on June 23, 1952 in Ashland, Wisconsin to John and Nancy (Stoeklen) Shubert. Jim graduated from Ashland High School in 1970. On June 24, 1972 he married Marsha Ronnback in Duluth, Minnesota. Jim spent his working career as a saw filer working at a number of companies: Connor Forrest Industries in Wakefield, Kimberly Clark in Newberry, Bowater in Albertville, AL, R. Hoe Saw Company in Little Rock, AR, he and a partner started U.P. Saw Doctors in Newberry, Pierre Lumber in Belleplaine, IA, and for Timber Products from 1982 until 2005. When Jim moved to Shingleton in 1982, he not only started a career at Timber Products, he started an important role in our Shingleton and Munising communities. He served as the SRC President, Little League Baseball Coach, hockey coach, Cub Scout Pack Leader, Lay Minister at the ELCA in Shingleton, church youth group leader, volunteer at the Alger County Humane Society, Union Steward, President of the Lake Superior State Saw Filers Association, Munising Public School Board Member, and the "Voice" in the crowd at all Mustang Sporting events. Jim lived for deer hunting, and was an avid Packer and Red Wing fan. Jim was a loving, hard working man, and a great father and husband.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years - Marsha Shubert of Shingleton; sons - Mike Shubert of Escanaba, Tim Shubert of Shingleton, and Patrick Shubert of Escanaba; granddaughters - Kaylee and Kamaro; mother - Nancy Shubert of Menominee, WI; sisters - Terry (John) Nutz of San Antonio, TX and Penny (David) Soles of Lake City, FL; brother - Robert Shubert of Warner Robbins, GA; and numerous - aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jim's visitation will be on Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at the Bowerman Funeral Home. Jim's niece Army Chaplin Jessica Annis will conduct his memorial service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Memorials in Jim's name may be made to the City of Munising - Zamboni Fund or the Alger County Humane Society.
