James “Jim” Donald Grey, Jr., age 63, of Munising, died on Thursday morning, September 8, 2016 at UPHS in Marquette. He was born in Munising on October 27, 1952 to the late Donald and Margaret (Maddox) Grey, Sr. Jim grew up in Munising and graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School. He served in the U.S. Navy and worked as the manager at Hiawatha Log Homes for many years and as a self-employed laborer. Jim loved playing tennis, walking his dogs, fishing and hunting. He was always the first ice fisherman out on Lake Superior and always had the biggest snowman in his yard during the Christmas season. Jim was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Tigers, and Detroit Pistons.
He is survived by his children – Joseph Grey of Brandon, MS and Meagan (Justin Helmholdt) of Bear Lake, MI; granddaughter – Deanna; sister – Iris Skoien of Marquette; nieces - Jaime and Tracy Skoien of Marquette; and nephew – SSgt. Anthony (Jill) Grey in the U.S. Army stationed in Japan and their children Hailey and Austin. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Margaret and his sister Lisa Grey Hardwick.
Private family graveside services will be held at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising. Memorials are requested to be made to the family c/o Iris Skoien, 1620 Wilkinson Avenue, Marquette, MI 49855.
