James Michael Manolakis, Jr., age 58, of Munising and formerly of Seney, died Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Munising Memorial Hospital following a five month battle with cancer.  Jimmy was born on November 16, 1963 in Kincheloe, Michigan to James and Iris (McClellan) Manolakis, Sr.  He grew up in Seney and graduated from Newberry High School in 1982.  Jimmy entered into the U.S. Navy and served aboard many submarines including the USS Tinosa (SSN-606).  He was honorably discharged as a Submarine Sonar Maintenance Tech. in 1988.  Jimmy worked all over the U.S. as a computer technician working for the U.S. Government as a contractor, U.S. Mint, and FAA at airports in Minneapolis and Green Bay.  After returning to the U.P., he worked in maintenance at Hampton Inn in Marquette and then Medilodge and the Manor in Munising.  Jimmy was an avid stamp and coin collector and enjoyed working on computers.

He is survived by his father -  James “Sam” (Joan) Manolakis, Sr. of Sun City West, AZ; sister – Michele “Shelly” Hayward of Munising; step-sister – Boyann (Alfred) Bonjean of Crown Point IN.; nephew – Nathan Hayward; niece – Angela McNeely; great-niece – Madison Hayward; aunts and uncles – Terry (Randy) Vanderaa, Tom (Katie) Moore, Tim Moore, Betty Moore, Karen Moore, Connie (Mike) Zaharias,  R. Michael Manolakis; special friend – Kathleen and her children and grandkids – Leslie “Wuffie” (Brian), Richard (Marissa), Alexandria, and Winston and Richard Jr., Arlo, Raymond, Olivia, Emerale, Xaviera, and Tytus; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Jimmy was preceded in death by his grandparents; mother – Iris (Roger) Gager; aunts and uncles – Neil “Spike” and Jim “Gordon” Moore, Fern, Wayne, Ed, and Bill McClellen.

Jimmy’s burial will take place at the Limestone Township Cemetery on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.
