Munising
Janet L. Becker, age 80, of 200 W. City Park Drive, Munising, died under the care of her family and Northwoods Hospice on Friday morning, June 8, 2007 at her home. She was born on May 6, 1927 in Munising to Robert and Anna (Lamour) Shirey. Janet graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1945. She married Max H. Becker on October 18, 1947. Together they raised four sons and were married over thirty-eight years when he unexpectedly preceded her in death on June 24, 1986. Janet had worked at the Munising Paper Mill, Atlas Plywood, CCI Veneer Mill, and at Madigan's Hardware for many years. She worked five years at a church in Florida where free clothes were given out to the needy and she volunteered at the St. Vincent De Paul Society for many years.
Janet is survived by three sons - Rex and Deb Becker of Hale, MI, Robert Becker of Traunik, and James and Marilyn Becker of Vicksburg, MI; daughter-in-law - Jean of Troy, MI; grandchildren - Scot, Tom, Stacey, Mark, Julie, Trish, Dana, Randy, and Malissa; sister - Anne (Bob) Blackman of Portage, MI; brother - Bill (Twila) Shirey of Kalamazoo; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Max, their son Tommy Joe who was killed in Vietnam in 1972, brother Hollis Shirey, and sister Molly Bernard.
