Janet Jean Kusmirek

Janet Jean Kusmirek, age 74, of Marquette and formerly of California, died at her home on Monday, May 27, 2024. She was born on July 4, 1949 in Hartford, Connecticut to the late Jack and Muriel (Mericier) Gordon. Janet grew up in the Chicago suburbs and graduated from Wilmette High School. Her family moved to Manhasset, New York and she met Tom Kusmirek. They were married in February of 1968. The two of them were blessed with their son, Scott in September of that year. The family business moved the family to California and Janet worked in a department store and for Burns Pharmacy. She enjoyed the family atmosphere at the pharmacy and enjoyed letting Scott know about the celebrities she spotted in California. She continued to work for CVS when the Burns family sold. Janet moved to Marquette to be closer to her son in 2021. Janet loved watching Martha Stewart and any home and gardening show. Her brother was a clarinetist and she enjoyed listening to his jazz music.

 Janet is survived by her son – Scott Cameron (Melissa McNamara) Kusmirek of Munising; Melissa’s kids – Ervin and Ava; sister – Donna Froelich of San Diego, CA; sister-in-law – Sue Gordon of Pacific Beach, CA; nephew – Danny Froelich, and longtime friend – Tom Kusmirek. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bobby Gordon.
