Grand Marais
Janet "Jan" Marie Ogden, age 92, of Alger Avenue in Grand Marais, MI died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, September 1, 2010. She was born in Grand Marais on July 28, 1918 to the late Hiram and Elfreda (Swanson) Mulligan. Jan graduated from Grand Marais High School. She met Park Ogden while he was vacationing in Grand Marais and they were married on April 26, 1943. After he returned from WWII they lived in Ohio while Park finished school and then moved to Louisiana where together they raised their four daughters. Jan was an avid reader, reading anything that would bring her information and knowledge. She enjoyed volunteering at the Salvation Army where she was awarded a plaque for twenty-five years of service. Jan and Park returned home to Grand Marias in 2001. They attended the First Lutheran Church of Grand Marias. Jan enjoyed many things, but the thing she kept closest to her heart was her loving family.
Jan is survived by her three daughters - Karen Kirby of Champion, MI, Jan Carol "J.C." Ogden of Grand Marais, and Mary (Rick) Capogrossa of Grand Marias; thirteen grandchildren - Lemuel, Daniel, Danica, Micah, & Miriam Smyth, Jamie, Joshua, Jeremy, & Stephanie Kirby, Candace Prill, and Dylan, Ashleigh, & Hunter Capogrossa; ten great-grandchildren - Paitten, Emily, Hannah, Obadiah, Samuel, Abigail, Zachary, Jonathan, Trevor, and Anna Lee; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of over sixty-three years Park in August of 2006; daughter - Candace "Candy" Smyth; parents Hiram and Elfreda; brothers - James Douglas & Richard Bruce Mulligan; grandson - Trevor Capogrossa; and granddaughter - Christiana Smyth.
A private graveside committal was at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grand Marais.
