Munising
Janet Marie Whippen, age 91, of Munising, died late Thursday morning, November 12, 2020 at Medilodge of Munising. She was born on February 16, 1929 in Munising to the late August and Esther (Pierson) Berg. Growing up, Janet worked at the Delft Theater and in 1947, she graduated from Wm. G Mather High School. Janet attended Maumee Valley School of Nursing in Toledo, Ohio and graduated as a registered nurse in 1950. She married William H. “Bill” Whippen on November 25, 1950. They lived in Monroe and raised their two children. In 1972, they moved the family to Munising and purchased the Berg family home where Janet was born. Janet worked as a Registered Nurse at Munising Memorial Hospital and loved her job there. She retired from MMH in 1991. Janet was an active member at Eden Lutheran Church. She enjoyed reading, swimming, bowling, playing golf with Bill. They were married over sixty-six years when Bill preceded her in death on March 2, 2017.
Survived by son – Bill Whippen of Clinton, Michigan; grandchildren – Jeff (Jenn) Meyer of Wetmore and Leslie (Brent) McMordie of Brooklyn, MI; great-grandchildren – Brynnlee, Quinn, Alayna, and Elise; brother – Leonard Berg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, daughter and son-in-law Janice and Stuart Meyer, brother Carl Berg, sisters Mabel (John) Janik and Judy (Austin) Marsh and sister-in-law Gladys Berg.
A graveside services will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. for both Janet and her son William "Bill" Whippen, Jr.
