Munising
Orva "Jean" Gollinger, age 82, of Powell's Point in Munising, died Friday, April 13, 2012 at her daughters home in Trenary, following a brief illness. She was the youngest of ten children, born on April 8, 1930 to the late Clarence and Mary (Powell) DesJardins in Alcona County, Michigan. In 1940 her family moved to Munising to live at Powell's Point. In her teen years, Jean worked at the Hotel Williams on Grand Island. She was a member of the William G. Mather class of 1949. Jean began working at Atlas Plywood, where she met her husband Lawrence "Larry" Gollinger, they were married on February 18, 1956. Jean worked for the Munising Public Schools for over twenty years, always taking great pride in her bus driving and custodial duties. She loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing, mushrooming, being on the water, watching the pansies in the spring, and listening to the chipmunks and partridge rustling in the leaves. Jean was very proud of her children, grandchildren, and her family heritage.
She is survived by her two daughters - Darlene (Terry Dishong) Moreland of Trenary and Kelly (Loren) King of Munising; step-children - Lorraine Hensel of Sturtevant, WI and Raymond (Donna) Gollinger of Munising; grandchildren - James Moreland III and Steven Moreland; step son-in-law - Mike Moore; step-granddaughter - Lisa Peters; numerous nieces and nephews; and dog Kirby and twenty-two year old cat Critter. Jean was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Mary; husband Larry; siblings - Marcele Brandford, Kathleen Muelrath, Ann Thompson, Truman, Lewis, Leonard, Harvey, Ernest, and Raymond DesJardins; step-daughter Barbara Moore; and son-in-law Russel Culp.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the Bowerman Funeral Home from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Deacon Tom Moseley will conduct Jean's Funeral at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Jean will be "Going Home" for interment at the Williams Family Cemetery on Grand Island at a later date.
