Jeanne Claire (Colburn) O'Boyle

Munising

Jeanne Claire O’Boyle, age 90, of Munising, died unexpectedly in the emergency room at UPHS Marquette following a brief illness on Sunday evening, November 26, 2017.  She was born on December 9, 1926 in Munising, Michigan to Albert and Mary (Becker) Colburn.  Jeanne grew up in Munising and graduated from Wm. G. Mather High. She attended a school of business in Milwaukee then returned to Munising and married Lawrence Longfield O’Boyle on February 26, 1949.  Together they raised their seven children.  Lawrence preceded her in death on July 3, 1973.  Mom was hired by the City of Munising in February of 1971 as the Deputy Treasurer and retired in July of 1989 as the Treasurer/Assessor.  She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.   Dad and her loved the game of golf and she continued to play well into her 80’s.  Wednesdays were reserved for golf and card games with her longtime friends.   She played Bridge and 500 through the National Catholic Society of Foresters and Euchre on Friday afternoons at the Munising Senior Center.   Jeanne is a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Munising Hospital Auxiliary, Pictured Rocks Golf Course and Sacred Heart Parish, and a current member of the Munising Bay Quilt Guild.  Mom enjoyed traveling and upon retirement became a snowbird wintering in Florida and Alabama.  She was musically talented and still played her piano.  She was a gifted seamstress and knitter.  Mom loved reading, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, any card game, Scrabble, beaches and water, and us.  She really loved us.

She is survived by her seven children – Patrick (Diane) O’Boyle of Marquette, Linda (Barry) Cleary of Marquette, Brian O’Boyle of Munising, Gayle (Wayne) St. Amour of Munising, Mary (Bruce) Cromell of Munising, Sean (Janice) O’Boyle of Brevort, and Michael (Bridget) O’Boyle of Marquette; grandchildren – Jessica (Bill) Elliott, Bruce (Liza Conyers) Cromell, Sheila (Pat) Peters, Corey (Tammy Huotari) Cromell, Chad (Amanda Gauthier) Cromell, Ryan (Kristen) O’Boyle, Katelynn (Nathan) Coon, Kyle (Liz Pudenz) O’Boyle, Chelsey (Harold Moll) O’Boyle, Kevin O’Boyle, Josh (Kelly)  Bonneau, and Lawrence (Amy Bartkus) O’Boyle II; great-grandchildren – Emily Cromell, Audrey Cromell, Bailey Elliott, Lauren Peters, Emma Miron, Josh  Huotari, Jasmine Huotari, Evan O’Boyle, Evalyn Coon, Levi O’Boyle, Liza  Coon, Eli Coon, Charlee O’Boyle, and Chloe and Caden Bonneau; brother-in-law – Edward “Punk” (Beryl) O’Boyle of Munising; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lawrence, parents-in-law – Jim and Clara O’Boyle, brothers Paul (Carol) Colburn and Jack (Dorothy) Colburn, and sisters Helen (Ed) Johnson, Marion (Fred) Sauer, Dorothy (George) Seaberg, and Vera (Louis) Carr.

Services will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising.  Visiting time with family and friends will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.   Deacon Tom Moseley will conduct Jeanne’s memorial service celebration at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home’s chapel.  Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.

Memorials in Jeanne’s name are suggested to be made to the Munising Senior Citizens Center, 208 W. Superior Street, Munising, MI  49862.
