James "Jim" Tyner, age 72, of East Slapneck Road, Chatham, died on Friday morning, January 9, 2009 at Marquette General Hospital following a two year illness. He was born on October 1, 1936 in Munising to Edward and Gladys (Truckey) Tyner. Jim grew up in Munising and Limestone and graduated from Trenary High School in 1955. He went to work in the woods and on April 23, 1960, Jim married Sherry Maki. He went to work at Kimberly Clark in 1967. He had progressed to Operator #17 in the Specialties Department when he retired in 1995. Jim bought a sawmill in 1993 and cut lumber at his home until his health no longer allowed him to work. He loved camping and fishing in the Upper Peninsula and Canada. He and Sherry enjoyed traveling together and they were members of the Northern Knights Classic Car Club. They traveled to many shows with their 1957 Chevy. Jim was a jokester with his family and while at work. His children, grandchildren, and family were his life and was happiest spending his time with his family, car, sawmill, garage, and the being in the woods.

Jim is survived by his wife of over forty-eight years - Sherry of Chatham; three sons - Jim (Jessica) Tyner of Chatham, Derrick (Pamla) Tyner of Niagra, WI, and Rodney (Heather) Tyner of Chatham; seven grandchildren - Ashley, Alayna, Nathan, Natalie, Jon, Maezie, and Owen; brothers and sisters - Ed (Marlene) Tyner of Limestone, Carol (Jim) Trumbel of Lansing, Donna (Ron) Pardone of Chandler, AZ, George (Barb) Tyner of Chatham, Terry (Barb) Tyner of Limestone, Sharlet (Melvin) Silta of Dukes, Jack (Janet) Tyner of Eben, Bonnie (Marvin) Maki of Rumely, Rita (Pete) Niemi of Sundell, Tim (Kim) Tyner of Sundell, and Kim (Judy) Tyner of Limestone; brothers and sisters-in-law - Jim Charlebois of Chatham, Matt (Kelly) Maki of Chatham, Elaine Gurski of Green Bay, and Selina (Bob) Balko of Wetmore; forty-nine nieces and nephews; seventy-nine great nieces and nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Gladys Tyner, sister Gloria Charlebois, parents-in-law Matt and Madelon Maki, and brother-in-law Stanley "Stosh" Gurski.

Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Monday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Jim's funeral service will be conducted by Father Jacek Wtyklo on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home's chapel. Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham in the spring.
