John Phillip Boucher, age 77, of Munising, died at his home following a lengthy illness on Sunday, December 1, 2024. He was born on March 9, 1947 in Munising to the late Clifford and Lorraine (Opitz) Boucher. John grew up in Munising and was raised by his mother and stepfather, Ed Niemi. He graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1965. John attended trade school at the Brown Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota and worked for Augsburg Publishing in Minneapolis for twenty-six years. In March of 1996, he returned to Munising. John was a member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed computers, reading, sports and cheering for the Lions. John and his brother Ed were great supporters of Munising Mustang basketball and football.
John is survived by his half-brother – Ed Niemi of Munising; and nephew and advisor Dan (Tanya) Niemi. He was preceded in death by his parents Clifford Boucher and Lorraine and Ed Niemi, and stepsister Betty Niemi, and stepbrothers Leslie and Bill Niemi.
Visitation will be at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Thursday, December 5, 2024 from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising in the spring of 2025.
