John E. Griffin, age 44, of 1108 East Munising Avenue in Munising, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 21, 2010 in the ICU of Marquette General Hospital. He was born on May 4, 1966 in Groom, Texas and was raised in Bandera, Texas by his grandparents. John married Pam Awtrey on September 6, 2002. He suffered a serious back injury in March of 2003 and had experienced multiple surgeries and severe discomfort ever since. John and Pam fulfilled a lifelong dream of his by moving to Michigan on August 31, 2009. He was a member of the Pictured Rocks Christian Fellowship. John enjoyed reading, working on the computer, joking with family and friends, and his passion was caring for the pet birds they owned.

John is survived by his wife - Pamela Awtrey-Griffin of Munising; children - Karen Victoria Griffin of San Marcus, TX, Jasper John Scott Griffin of San Marcus, TX Adam Rosson of Alabama; Christina (Waylan) Landua of Gatesville, TX, William Jared Daniels of Burnet, TX, and Jerika Abdul-Razik of Munising; grandchildren - Charles Jaden Ray Abudl-Razik, Ashley Landua, Clayton Landua, Nikolas Reed Doiron, Michael Alan Helbert, Robert Justin Helbert, and William Connor Daniels; sister - Billie Leeandrea (David) Gould of Bandera, TX; brother - Michael Alan Griffin of San Antonio, TX; nephews - Dillon Michael Griffin and Jeffrey David Gould; and niece - Christie Marie Gould. John was preceded in death by his mother Doris Smith, his grandparents Jasper and Victoria Griffin, and his best friend Pablo.

On Sunday, May 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. a celebration of John's life was held at the Pictured Rocks Christian Fellowship at 205 E. Superior Street in Munising as they said goodbye to one of their Body.
