John Stanley Klosowski

John Stanley Klosowski, age 83, of 202 E. Chocolay Street, Munising, died early Tuesday morning, January 8, 2013 at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette. He was born at Logging Camp 15 near Melstrand on November 27, 1929 to John and Veronica (Zurovski) Klosowski. John worked on the family farm and in the woods before serving in the U.S. Army from 1951 until 1953. He married Patricia Rose Marentette on September 25, 1954 and together they raised their four children. John worked twenty-three years at Kimberly Clark as a millwright and maintenance foreman. He then purchased the Gulf Station and ran Klosowski Oil until his retirement in the mid 1980's. In the mid 1970's they also had the Arctic Cat Shop and snowmobiling was a large part of their family life. John was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the American Legion, and the DAV. He was a hardworking man who could tinker and fabricate something out of almost nothing. John enjoyed working on cars even after his retirement and he sided many homes in the area as an extra job. He loved music and played the accordion, bass fiddle, and harmonica. John also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of over fifty-eight years - Pat Klosowski of Munising; their children - John (Sally) Klosowski, Ray Klosowski, David (Karen) Klosowski, and Sheila (Al) Makinen all of Munising; six grandchildren - Josh, Sara, Rae Ann, T.J., Shannon, and R.J; fourteen great-grandchildren; sisters - Stella (Richard) Debelak of Munising and Anna Klosowski of Shingleton; sisters-in-law - Betty Rousseau, Patty Marentette, Sue Marentette; and numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ed and Walt Klosowski, sisters Helen Anderson, Pearl Gurski, Jennie Heyrman, Lillian Kirmo, Mary Debelak, and Sophie Olson.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 11, 2013 from 10:00 until 11:45 a.m. at the Bowerman Funeral Home. Fr. Chris Gardiner will celebrate John's funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church at 12:10 p.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising in the spring where the Alger County American Legion and Vietnam Veterans Honor Guards will conduct military honors.
