John Rowe Lawson, age 77, of N3988 Peninsula Point road, Munising, died following an eight month illness on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 2:10 a.m. at Marquette General Hospital. He was born on July 1, 1931 in Rochester, NY to Fritz and Arlene (Rowe) Lawson. John graduated from Columbia-Allendale High School and then attended Franklin and Marshall College before serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After the War, John returned back to school and graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Business. He worked in the corrugated box business and the Weyerhauser Company for most of his career which moved he and his family all over the U.S. John married Ceci Hodges on August 22, 1979. They summered here since 1988. John and Ceci expanded their summer home, winterized it, and lived year round since 2006. John was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church, the American Legion, Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity, and the "Over the Hill" deer camp. John enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating, hunting, reading, listening to music, having coffee at the Dog Patch in the mornings, and having his companion, Tucker, on every drive he took.
John is survived by his wife - Ceci; children - Gordon Lawson of Marinette, WI, Douglas (Theresa) Lawson of Williams Bay, WI, and Kirsten Jean McCracken of Burlington, VT; stepson - Trent (Shannon) Hodges of Richmond, VA; grandchildren - Sydney and Thomas Hodges; and nephews - Bruce and Allen Weinhold. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Jean Weinhold.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church. Memorials in memory of John may be directed to the Lillian Brooks Nursing Education Fund at the Marquette General Hospital Foundation or North Woods Home Health and Hospice.
