Munising
John "Al" Wagner, age 89, of Munising, died under North Woods Hospice care late Saturday morning, December 17, 2011 at Harbour View in Munising. Al was born in Waterloo , Iowa on February 6, 1922 to the late William and Verna (Doyle) Wagner. He served in Europe during WWII in the U.S. Army. Al retired from O'Hare as a printer for the Government and then moved to Munising. He had a home on Powell Lake for many years and enjoyed the view of the water and nature around him. Al moved into town and enjoyed spending time as a member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed the camaraderie, playing cards and loved the fish fry. Al moved to Harbour View and was well taken care of by the caregivers at Harbour View and the Alger County Commission on Aging.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law - Mary Jo and Denny Thomas of McKinney, TX; grandchildren - Christine (Chuck) Gallagher, Michael (Fern) Thomas, and Sheila (Jim) O'Gara; and great-grandchildren - Kelsi, Jake, and Sailor. Al was preceded in death by his parents, wife LaVon, and brother Bob.
There will be no public services. Al will be buried at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo , Iowa .
