John “Jack” Koenig, age 93, of Midland passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Stratford Pines nursing home in Midland, MI.  He will be greatly missed by all of us.

John was born in Munising, MI to parents Edward and Minnie Koenig, November 20, 1924, where he graduated from high school and proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve our country in WWII.  He served aboard a number of ships with his favorite posting aboard the U.S.S. Wilkes-Barre.

After his naval service, he pursued and accomplished a college education to the level of Master’s Degree in Mathematics from Central Michigan University.  He then put his degree to work in the Dow Chemical Michigan Division Computer Lab and associated roles in the Research function for 35 years, retiring in 1984.   John accomplished much in his life journey – as a son, navy seaman, husband, Father and Friend to many.

On May 13, 1950, John married the wonderful Mary Jean Straub, who preceded him in death on September 7, 2000.  They enjoyed family picnics, watching baseball, and bowling in various leagues.  In their later years, they enjoyed traveling throughout Michigan to enjoy the beauty, sights, and sounds.

John’s personal hobbies include gardening, teaching math at Delta College, exercise walking, and above all- his endless pursuit for conversation – to share ideas and opinions, and to learn from others.

John is survived by his children and their families:  John Koenig, wife Anne Hoffman, grandchildren Jessica Koenig, Robert Koenig, great grandchildren Jonathon and Elizabeth Koenig; Tom Koenig, wife Cyndy Koenig, grandson Aric Koenig, three great grandchildren; Mark Koenig, grandchildren Dr. Daniel Koenig, wife Stephanie Koenig, Dr. Dana Feraco, husband Spencer, great grandchildren Linden and Felicity Feraco; Frank Koenig, wife Lynne Koenig.

Dad’s wishes were for a small family service which will take place in Munising, Michigan where he will be set aside his wife Mary Jean.
