John "Jack" A. Tackmann, age 87, passed away early Monday morning, July 11th 2016 at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans where he had resided for the past several years. John was born May 19th 1929 in Columbus, Ohio to Carl and Edith (Zeisler) Tackmann. John joined the Army Air Corp. right out of high school and was a Radar Tech. on a B-29 Mini-Bomber during World War II. After the army, John moved to Munising, Michigan and worked at the Munising Woodenware. It was there that he met and married Beverly Denny in 1951. John and Beverly moved to Columbus, Ohio when the Woodenware closed and lived there for twenty years. They then moved back to the Upper Peninsula where John worked for the Marquette Public Works and then the Board of Light and Power where he retired from. After retiring, John and Beverly moved back to Munising where John enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing with his friend Jim and watching his favorite football team, the Green Bay Packers. John was friendly, outgoing and dearly loved by many.
John is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Carl and Terri Tackmann, daughter Becky Tackmann, grandson Jacob Van Pelt, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Edith, wife Beverly who passed away in 2011, brother Carl, sisters Phylis (Ted), Martha (Eddie), Ruth, and Dorthy (Larry).
John's family would like to extend a thank you to the exceptional staff at Jacobetti who provided such loving care and friendship to John and also to John's fellow members who he loved to spend hours with talking and smoking.
Pastor Lon Russell will conduct a memorial service on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette with a luncheon will follow
