Munising
Jolene Elizabeth LaFave, age 54, of 412 Lynn Street, died unexpectedly on Thursday, February 2, 2012 in Munising. She was born on June 9, 1957 to the late Joe and Eileen (Richards) Fasenello, in Detroit, Michigan. Jolene moved to Munising at the age of sixteen and graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in the Class of 1975. She married Larry "Bounce" LaFave in December of 1982, and together they raised their son Evan. In 1982, Jolene purchased the Corktown Bar and owned and operated it for the last thirty years. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing softball and working out. Jolene loved her son Evan more than anything, and she always had a sparkle in her eye whenever they were together. She especially enjoyed watching him play ball and giving her little coaching tips from the stands. She was always happy when she was taking her granddaughters wherever they wanted to go, boating on Lake Superior, or spending time with her Corktown family. Jolene was loved by many and her generosity to the community was never ending.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law - Evan and Shanon LaFave of Munising; three granddaughters - Autymn, Kiira, and Skyler; longtime friend - Bounce; and numerous other family and friends. Jolene was preceded in death by her parents Eileen Turner, Joe Turner, and Joe Fasenello.
Services will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the Bowerman Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Deacon Tom Moseley of Sacred Heart Church will conduct Jolene's funeral service at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home's chapel. A gathering of friends and family to celebrate Jolene's life will follow the service at the Corktown.
