Joyce Arvilla Dore' (nee Mellin)
Munising - The angels came on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 to escort Joyce Arvilla Dore', age 80, home to her Lord and Savior. She passed under the care of hospice and her loving family. Joyce was born in Munising, Michigan on January 24, 1932 to the late Oliver Mellin and Rose McQuisten (nee Johnson, Mellin). She was a 1950 graduate of William G. Mather High School where she participated in marching band and was honored to be on the cover the Michigan Educational Journal.
Joyce married the love of her life and best friend, John H. Dore' in Lansing, Michigan in November of 1950. Together they raised five children. Joyce encouraged her children to have strong morals, knowledge, creativity, independence, and gave them a sense of self-esteem. She was a nurturer, not only to her children, but to all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family and encouraged them to be all they could be. Joyce took extreme pride in being a wife, mother, and a homemaker.
When her children were grown, Joyce worked for State Farm Insurance Company and later for Pictured Rocks Cruises and Gift Shop. In her retirement years, Joyce and her husband wintered in Lakeland, Florida for nearly nineteen years, where they met and enjoyed many good friends.
Joyce was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and belonged to St. Anthony's Guild and the Lady Foresters. Her hobbies included bowling, golfing, shuffleboard, knitting, reading, crossword puzzles, and painting canvas with oil paints, at which she was very adept. She had a wonderful sense of humor.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband of sixty-one years - John H. Dore'; five children - Michael (Jana) Dore' of Summerville, SC, Steven (Kelly) Dore' of Marquette, MI, Susan (Donald) Bianchi of Harvey, MI, Karen (David) Dickson of Eben, MI, and Jon Pierre (Mary) Dore' of Munising; her sister - Lois (Bob) Gatiss of AuTrain, MI; grandchildren - Jessica (Jeremy) Tierney of Woodbridge, VA, Michelle Bianchi of St. Louis, MO, Donald Bianchi, Jr. of Brighton, MI, Scott Dore' of Summerville, SC, Andre' and Luc Dore' of Marquette; step grandchildren - Madison James Dickson of Wisconsin, Loni Chappell of Tampa, FL, and Lori Chappell of Roseville, MI; great-grandchildren - Felix, Zoe, and Piper Tierney of Woodbridge, VA; step-great grandchildren - Michaela and Carter Dickson of Wisconsin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Oliver and Rose; a sister Shirley Reffruschinni, and an infant grandson, Adam Dore'.
Mass will be celebrated by Father Chris Gardiner at Sacred Heart Church on Friday, September 14, 2012 at 12:10 p.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising and a fellowship gathering and time for visiting with family and friends will take place in the LaMothe Hall following the burial.
