Julia Carol Beatty, age 81, of Munising, died Saturday morning, December 28, 2019 at the Brookridge Heights Assisted Living and Memory Care Home in Marquette following a lengthy illness. She was born on June 17, 1938 in Munising to Edwin and Pearl (Morgan) Severson. Julia grew up in Munising and graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1956. She married her high school sweetheart, Joseph Russell Beatty, on August 17, 1957. Joe and Julia raised their two children and Julia was a homemaker until her children were in school. She then went to work as a teacher’s aide at Central School. Mrs. Beatty influenced and helped hundreds of children through the years as an aide, playground patrol, and in the library. She retired from the Munising Public School System after many years. Julia and Joe were faithful members of Sacred Heart Church. During Joe’s dedication to the Munising Volunteer Fire Department, she was active with the Women’s Fire Department Auxiliary. As a family, they spent a lot of time snowmobiling and bird hunting together. Julia enjoyed reading, golfing, baking, walking with and without Joe, and spending time at camp on their pontoon on Lost Lake. Joe’s love and care for Julia with her memory loss was a testimony to what marriage should be for all.
Julia is survived by her loving husband of over sixty-one years – Joe Beatty of Munising; son – Greg Beatty of Munising; daughter – Karen (Bob) Manske of Portage, WI; grandchildren – Joey, Jessica, Nicole, and Brent; great-grandchild – Brynn with another on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Betty (Bill) Carroll.
