Julia M. Stevenson, age 93, of Christmas, died on Monday evening, May 28, 2018 at the MediLodge of Munising. She was born on December 17, 1924 in Munising to the late Joseph and Pauline (Galus) Kolbus. Julia grew up one of ten children on the Kolbus family farm on top of Tannery Hill. She married Thurman Price Stevenson and together raised their son Paul. Julia was proud of her Polish heritage, and enjoyed the Polish Reunions held at the Conservation Club. In her younger years she worked at the the Grand Island Hotel, then at Lester’s Jewelry Store, Alger County Hardware, and the Dime Store. Julia was a member of Sacred Heart Church and attended many meetings with the 10th Mountain Division with Thurman. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and working on her flower gardens.
Julia is survived by her son Paul (Vicky Lacy) of Christmas; siblings – Stella Graves, CeCe Walkiewicz, and Walter (Katherine) Kolbus; numerous nieces and nephews including Beth and Bill Riordan; and good friends Leonard, Marilyn, and Lenny Beverly. She was preceded in death by her husband Thurman and siblings: John, Mary, Ann, Stanley, Rosie, and Joe.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Maple Grove Cemetery at 12:00 noon.
