Justine Johnson

Munising Justine Mary Johnson, age 79, of Munising, died Monday, May 5, 2014 at Tendercare Health Center in Munising. She was born on October 7, 1934 in Munising, to the late Stanley and Blanche Pawielski. Justine graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1952, and obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Michigan State University.  She married Tom "T.J." Johnson on June 22, 1957 and together they raised their three daughters.  Justine resided all of her life in Munising. She was employed briefly at Kimberly Clark before spending the rest of her career in the classroom.   Justine taught at both the elementary and middle school level, at Sacred Heart School, Lincoln Elementary School, and Mather Middle School before retiring in the mid-late 1980's.  Justine enjoyed bowling in the Women's Bowling Leagues, playing cards with friends, knitting and crocheting, gardening and spending time with her family and friends at their camp on Miners Beach, and later, Ready Lake. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church, and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. Justine is survived by her three daughters - Tari (Randy) Johnson of Munising, Kelly Johnson of Phoenix, AZ, and Lisa Johnson of Escanaba, MI;  six grandchildren - Justin (Allison) Johnson, Nathan (Kim) Johnson, Evan and Jalen Tompkins, and Paige and Morgan Verbrigghe; great-grandchildren - Lillyanna, Charlie, and Hailey;  brothers - Tom (Muriel) and John Pawielski; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents - Stanley and Blanche; husband - Tom; great-granddaughter - Gracelyn Mae; sisters - Jennie Carlson, Sophie Miller, Adeline Baldwin, and Cecelia Schuck; and brothers - Chester, Joe, Edward, Anthony, Pawielski. Visitation will be on Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising, starting with the praying of the Rosary at 4:45 p.m. and visiting from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a Parish Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Father Chris Gardiner will celebrate Justine's Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, at Sacred Heart Church in Munising. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
