Katherine "Eileen" Price

~ Katherine "Eileen" Price passed away Monday, December 21 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans. She was born on March 21, 1918 and raised in Gladstone by her parents Howard and Mae (O'Boyle) Nebel. She had served in the Navy WAVES during World War II and married Andrew Jackson Price in 1946. They lived most of their married life in Royal Oak before retiring to Munising. He preceded her in death in 1984.
Eileen earned a B.S. in Education from N.M.U. and taught all six grades in Kipling prior to completing a M.S. in Mathematics from Wayne State University. She taught mathematics at Highland Park Community College went on to become the Department Head prior to retiring in 1973 after 34 years of service.
Eileen loved to travel and made several trips a year with the "Nomads." She was proud to be able to say that she had visited all the continents except Antarctica and that she had traveled around the world twice, in both directions. She enjoyed sharing her travel adventures and slides with family and friends. She was also an accomplished knitter and seamstress. She loved to knit and sew for family, friends and her church bazaars. Until recently she was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Munising and the Munising Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, serving as treasurer for both organizations.
Eileen is survived by her siblings, Robert (Dorothy) Nebel of Munising, Patricia Wagner of Allen Park, and Nan O'Hara of Traverse City; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and one great grandniece, and friends. She was a gentle, gracious lady who was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
There will be a memorial service on Friday, May 28, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in Munising. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with her service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery where the Alger County Veterans Council and American Legion Honor Guard will conduct military honors
