Escanaba
Kathy Lynn (nee Paananen) Glatus, age 57, of Escanaba and formerly of Munising, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Marquette General Hospital. She was born on November 12, 1954 in Marquette, Michigan to Charles and Jean (LaFave) Paananen. Kathy grew up in Munising and graduated from Wm.G. Mather High School in 1972. She married Tom Glatus in 1973 and together they raised their two children. Kathy and Tom lived in Escanaba before spending some time in Palmer Lake, Colorado where she managed Culpepper's Mercantile and also worked at the woodcarving museum. Their family returned to Escanaba and Kathy worked many years as an optician's assistant in the optical store at Shopko. She enjoyed spending time with her family who were very important to her. Kathy was the one who always recognized their special days with a card or a phone call. She enjoyed soaking up the sun, swimming in the pool, and she loved gardening. Kathy also enjoyed fishing with Tom and her home was always open to friends and family who were always welcomed. Kathy was liked and loved by anyone who met her.
She is survived by her husband - Tom Glatus of Escanaba; children - Alan (Michelle) Glatus and Melissa Glatus of Escanaba; mother - Jean Paananen of Munising; sisters - Diane VanPelt of Marquette and Charla (Phil) Heiler of Westland, MI; brother - Rick (Jolene) Paananen of Munising; mother-in-law - Barbara Glatus of Munising; brother-in-law - Dennis Adair of Munising; sister-in-law - Cheryl Anderson of Munising; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Kathy was preceded in death by her father Charles Paananen, sister Regina Adair, and father-in-law Richard Glatus.
Services will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Sunday, September 2, 2012. Visiting time with family and friends will be from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Pastor Mike Engelsman will conduct Kathy's memorial service at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home's chapel.
