Munising
Kenneth William Warner, age 89, of Munising, died Thursday morning, March 2, 2017 at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette. He was born on September 25, 1927 in Munising to Frank and Belle (VanCamp) Warner. Ken grew up in Munising and graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School. He entered into the U.S. Navy on December 27, 1944. Ken served in the Asiatic Pacific during WWII and served on the USS Beachett, Praririe, Ajax, Benevolence, and Tekesta. He was also a member of Operation Crossroads in the Bikini Islands. Ken was discharged on October 8, 1947. He married Ruth Helen Salo on September 5, 1950 and they were married sixty-six years when Ruth preceded him in death on October 25, 2016. Ken was a builder and a Master Electrician. He coached Junior Ski Jumping in Munising for many years. He was the “Grand Poo-Pah” of the Pump House Gang and he enjoyed the outdoors, especially deer hunting.
Ken is survived by his son – Rex Warner of Munising; grandchildren – Jennifer (Bryan) Spencer and Owen (Sarah) Warner; great-grandchildren – Austin, Hunter, and Sade; and his beloved cat – Silver. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth, and sisters Olive Eskola and Kathern Glatus.
Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion and Vietnam Veteran Honor Guard at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 12:00 noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be made to the Alger County Animal Shelter in his name.
