Munising
Kora I. Hale, age 36, of 302 E. Chocolay Street, Munising, left this world unexpectedly and peacefully from Munising Memorial Hospital at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday evening, July 8, 2012. She was a Bicentennial baby born on June 27, 1976 in Adrian, Michigan the only child of Richard and Rita Hale. Soon after, she moved to Big Rapids for four years while her Dad was an optometry student. They then moved to Jackson for a year before the family settled in Munising in 1981. Despite her many severe impairments, Kora was generally happy and cheerful and always the center of her parent's world. She could not stand the Happy Birthday song or Christmas carols sung off key. Kora was nonverbal, but always greeted people she recognized with a big smile. She attended ISD programs in Jackson, Munising, Marquette, and Superior Central. Kora enjoyed lots of TV time with her dad and her mom read to her every day from the Bible and an endless stream of books. She especially liked sitting in the kitchen wearing her apron "helping" her mom cook and do the dishes.
Kora touched many people's lives in her abbreviated time with us and she will be missed by all of them, but all rejoice that she is free to do the things she could never do on earth. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandmothers Betty Hale of Traverse City and Leta VanEpps of Olivet and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of Kora's life will be held on Friday, July 20, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at the Munising Baptist Church in Wetmore. A fellowship gathering will take place after the service.
In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials are requested to the Munising Public Library, 810 State Highway M-28 West, Munising, MI 49862. The library was one of Kora's greatest joys.
