Kurt A. Hanson

Kurt A. Hanson, age 59, of Munising, died Sunday, April 18, 2021 at his home in Munising.  He was born on July 6, 1961 in Marquette, Michigan to the late Leonard and Hazel (McEachern) Hanson.  Kurt moved from Marquette with his family to Shelter Bay where they owned and operated the Pine Beach Grocery Store and he attended Deerton School. He spent many summers swimming and riding (and fixing) mini bikes.  Kurt worked as a heavy equipment operator for many different excavating companies over the years but was always happy if he was plowing snow or moving dirt.  There wasn’t a piece of equipment he couldn’t figure out how to operate.  Prior to his illness, he was always willing to help with any excavating projects or fixing anything mechanically.  Once his illness made him less mobile, he was always available by phone to help problem solve.  He enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes, after talking to his big sister daily on how to make something.  Kurt had a huge heart and was a jokester.  He was a great uncle to his many nieces and nephews and loved by all.  He will be remembered by most cruising the streets of Munising on his motorized scooter.

He is survived by his siblings – Bob (Pam) Hanson of Ishpeming, Cheryl (Dennis) Lane of Deerton, Mary Hanson of Harvey, Kathy (Bill) Haglund of Harvey, Kris Hanson of Sundell, and Bill (Lisa) Hanson of Shelter Bay; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.  Kurt was preceded in death by parents - Leonard and Hazel; brother – Leonard “Umpty” Hanson; and sister-in-law – Cindy Hanson.

A celebration of life luncheon in remembrace of Kurt A. Hanson will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Onota Township Hall in Deerton, MI .  Please join us to reminisce and share your stories.
