Trenary
Laina M. Johnson, age 91, formerly of Northbrook, IL and Trenary, died on Monday morning, January 16, 2012 at the Superior Health Haven in Munising. She was born on April 17, 1920 in Negaunee, Michigan to the late Juha and Tilda (Ikaliane) Kuvsela Aho. Her family moved to Trenary and Laina graduated from Trenary High School in 1938. After graduation, she and her sister moved to Chicago. Laina worked for American Can and then moved to Northbrook where she worked for Com-Ed and Poslode, retiring from there. Laina raised eight boys, oftentimes keeping them in line with a broom when necessary. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Northbrook. She loved playing BINGO and loved taking trips to Vegas with her sister to play in the BINGO halls there. In 2009, Laina moved back to the U.P.
She is survived by sons - Ken Johnson of Waukegan, IL, Ralph and Roy Johnson both of Northbrook, IL, and Dwayne Johnson of Trenary; seven grandchildren - Kerensa, Lance, Wendy, Jamie, Mike, Don, and Joie Jean; sister - Sylvia Wertan of Dallas, TX, brother - Arnold Aho of Gurnee, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews. Laina was preceded in death by sons - Richard, Don, and Ray Koski, and Robert Johnson and by her brother Toivo Aho.
Private family services will be held and interment will be at the Mathias Township Cemetery in Trenary.
