Munising
Larry J. Lindquist, age 61, of 300 S. Grand Street, Munising, died at his home following a courageous battle with metastatic lung cancer on Monday morning, October 10, 2011while surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 6, 1950 in Munising to the late Gunnard and Priscilla (Carberry) Lindquist. Larry graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1969. He worked for 38 ½ years at Kimberly Clark in the Specialties, Engineering and Maintenance Departments. Larry was the first to retire from Neenah Paper on August 1, 2005. After retiring from the mill, Larry worked for pleasure at the Glass-Bottom Shipwreck Tours. He had married Bonnie J. Hechtman on September 1, 1978. Larry was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Past President of the Alger County Conservation Club and currently a member of the U.P. Whitetail Association and Safari Club International. He loved hunting and fishing and could be found out at the Big Reef catching State record lake trout every chance he got. Larry had many trophy bucks and in September of 2010, he was able to go on an elk hunt through S.C.I. and get a trophy elk. He was also a talented woods worker and carpenter. He greatly enjoyed large family gatherings and carrying on family traditions such as making maple syrup in the spring on Carberry Hill.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie of Munising; daughter and son-in-law - Tracy and Johan de Jong of Cumming, GA; granddaughters - Brittany Lindquist of Munising and Laila de Jong of Cumming; grandson - Senna de Jong of Cumming; siblings - Michael (Pam Adams) Lindquist, Peter (Chris Konyn) Lindquist, Harry (Ruth) Lindquist, Evelyn (Willis) Childress all of Munising, George (Julie) Lindquist of Negaunee and David (Cindy) Lindquist of Hortonville, WI; uncle - Jack Carberry of Munising; aunt Barbara Carberry of Marquette; sister-in-law - Susan Hechtman of Marquette; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Gunnard and Priscilla.
Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Rev. Sandra Kolder will conduct Larry's funeral service at the United Methodist Church in Munising on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 12:00 noon. Larry will be escorted by his nephews. A fellowship gathering and luncheon will follow in the lower level of the church.
