Grand Marais
Lena "Lynn" Platt, age 67, of Ridge Road in Grand Marais, died peacefully on Monday, August 3, 2009 at Marquette General Hospital. She was born on March 6, 1942 in Carthage, New York to Earl and Lillian (Coffie) Pettey. Lynn married Bill Platt on September 20, 1996. She worked as a medical assistant and at the local bakery in Almont, Michigan. Lynn and Bill moved to Grand Marais in 2002. Lynn became very involved in the Grand Marais community. She was an active member to the Grand Marias Mennonite Church. Lynn was a volunteer on the Burt Township Ambulance, and the Grand Marais Kids Club. She enjoyed painting, making wreaths, and building bird houses that she would sell at the marketplace. Lynn also enjoyed feeding her little critter friends, making sure the squirrels, birds, and raccoons were always taken care of.
She is survived by her husband - Bill Platt of Grand Marais; two sons - Vincent Smith of Minnesota and Christian MacGregor of Florida; stepchildren - Karen Kicks and William "Bill" Platt; mother - Lillian Pettey; three brothers - Charles of Dexter, NY, Earl of Carthage, NY, and Lester Pettey of Evans Mills, NY; three sisters - Josephine Pettey of Natural Bridge, NY, Elma Johannessen of Plattsmouth, NE, and Laura Petty of Watertown, NY; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lynn is preceded in death by her father Earl Pettey and son Steven MacGreggor
A memorial service will be on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at the Grand Marais Mennonite Church beginning at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Lynn's name the Grand Marais kids club and the Burt Township Ambulance crew.
