Lenora D. Curtis, age 86, of Old Indiantown Road, Wetmore and Easton, Maryland, died surrounded by her family at Marquette General Hospital on Wednesday, April 15, 2009. She was born on February 3, 1923 in Putney, West Virginia to the late Louis and Tressie (nee Givens) Devores. Lenora graduated from West Fairmont High School with the Class of 1941. She married James L. Curtis on November 29, 1941 in Oakland, Maryland. While her husband and four brothers were serving our country during WWII, Lenora supported their efforts by working at the Fontana Steel Mill in California. When the War was over, she and James returned to West Virginia. James and Lenora moved to the Detroit area in 1960 and to Petersburg, West Virginia after retirement in 1982. Lenora was a dedicated caregiver for her mother and other family members. She and James were married fifty-five years when he preceded her in death on December 4, 1995. Lenora began sharing time with her two son's families in 2003 and lived both in Wetmore and Easton, Maryland. She was an active member of the Corners United Methodist Church in Cabins, WV. Throughout her life, she was a kind and generous wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She especially loved to prepare meals for family gatherings with her daughters in law and granddaughters, passing on many of her recipes of family favorites, like pepperoni rolls, pizelles, Italian cream cakes, and peanut butter balls. Her favorite pastimes in her younger years were pottery making and flower arranging. Later her passion was reading, and listening to audio books after she lost her sight.

Lenora is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law - Daniel B. and Carole A. Curtis of Easton, MD and James M. and Patricia A. Curtis of Wetmore, MI; four grandchildren - Lenette (Stuart) Wells of Birdsboro, PA, Anthony (Michelle) Curtis of Harrison Twp., MI, Michele (Michael) Wonch of Dunedin, FL, and Jason (Jennifer) Curtis of Rochester, NY; seven great-grandchildren - Jacob, Joshua, and Jonathon Wonch, Nicholas and Matthew Wells, and Sarah Lynn and Samantha Curtis; one brother - Franklin D. (Josephine) Devores of Shinnston, WV; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mac & Tressie Devores, her husband James L Curtis, and three brothers, Shirley, Eugene, and Gordon Devores.
Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Services will also be held in Fairmont, West Virginia at the Domico Funeral Home, with visitation on Friday, April 24, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be on Saturday April 25, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with Mr. Glenn Hamric officiating. Burial will follow at the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery, Shinnston, West Virginia.
