Shingleton
Leonard Robert Hicks, age 91, of Mead Road, Shingleton, died at his home on Thursday, August 10, 2006 at 9:34 p.m. under the care of Northwoods Hospice. He was born on October 3, 1914 in Paducah, KY to Sherwood and Rosie (Lester) Hicks. Leonard married Frances Elizabeth Thompson on June 6, 1939. . Len served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He and Frances lived in Jackson, Michigan until the 1950's when they moved to the Shingleton area. They owned and operated The Pines and Hickey's Restaurant and Bar for many years. They were both members of the Christ Lutheran Church in Shingleton. They were married over sixty-five years when Frances preceded him in death on March 22, 2004. Leonard loved to hunt and fish, and he loved his dogs! He is survived by his niece - Joanne (Jerry) Shumway of Batavia, IL and a nephew - Tom Semm of San Diego, CA.
Graveside services will be held at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising on Friday, August 18, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. The Alger County Veterans Council will conduct military honors followed by committal prayers by Rev. Nancy Kaupei.
