Leonard P. Wright, age 92, of E4171 Trout Lake Road, Limestone died early Wednesday morning, November 28, 2012 at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette. He was born on June 12, 1920 in Shingleton, Michigan to the late Clifford and Olive (Gedding) Wright. Leonard grew up in Shingleton and then the family moved to Limestone. He entered into the U.S. Army on May 13, 1942. Leonard served in Europe and was involved in battles and campaigns at Rome-Arno, Northern Apennines, and the Po Valley. He earned the WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, EAME Theater Ribbon with three bronze battle stars, and the Good Conduct Medal. During the service, Leonard was a sparring partner for Rocky Marciano who tried to convince him to take up a career in boxing. When Leonard was discharged from the Army on November 9, 1945, he returned home to Limestone to work on the family farm and help care for his parents. Leonard was a member of the Limestone Baptist Church. He enjoyed being out in the woods, fishing, hunting, and he loved feeding and watching the deer. Known as "Uncle Jakie" to his nieces and nephews, he was kind, generous, and loved by all.

Leonard is survived by his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Earl, Lawrence, and Thomas Wright, and sisters Lena Neurenberg and Thelma Dartt.

Services will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at the Limestone Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Pastor Ted Jolls will conduct Leonard's funeral at 4:00 p.m. A fellowship gathering will take place at the church following the service. Interment will take place at the Limestone Township Cemetery in 2013. At that time, the Alger County American Legion and Vietnam Veterans Honor Guards will conduct military honors.
