Shingleton
Leslie "Joe" Graves, age 79, died at the home Joe and Ida built on Wednesday morning, December 14, 2011. He was born to Raymond and Mercy (Williams) Graves by the North Branch of the Stutts Creek on June 27, 1932 and attended school at Hiawatha. He married Ida Stimac on September 18, 1954 and together they raised their family. Joe spent his entire life working in the woods. He logged with horses, drove trucks and worked in the sawmill with his brother, operated heavy equipment, and owned and operated Les Graves Logging for over forty-five years. Joe loved and appreciated the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, deer and bird hunting, trapping, brook trout and fly rod fishing. Joe loved being at home, especially when surrounded by his family. He played cards and board games with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and it did not matter how old the kids were, he enjoyed beating them all. He could always be found with grandchildren on his lap while he read them stories and finished each one with a clunk on the head before moving onto the next book. Joe was heartbroken when his wife of fifty-five years preceded him in death on July 18, 2009.
Joe is survived by his five children - Bruce (Sally) Graves of Shingleton, Cindy (Ed) Hines of Munising, Kim (Bruce) Robinson, Mark (Caryn) Graves, and Joni (Steve) Mosier all of Shingleton; sixteen grandchildren - Jason (Liana), Shawn, and Ryan Graves, Heather (Jim) Aboud, Edward Hines, Leslie Hines, David (Robin), Derek, and Brad Robinson, Megan, Emily, and Seth Graves, Brett, Jamie, Jared, and Joey Mosier; six great-grandchildren - Halle and Hayden Graves, James and Sofia Aboud, Audree Hines, and Mackenzie Robinson; mother-in-law - Toots Stimac of Munising; brothers - Bob (Hilda) Graves and Donald (Judy) Graves; sisters - Mary Sanders, Mae (Leo) Anecki, and Pat (Harlin) Buchman; in-laws - Stella Graves, Anne Graves, Jean Graves, Art Normand, Blair "Harry" Kroupa, Ronald (Clara "Punky") Stimac, Judy (Jim) Hill, and Violet "Babe" Stimac; and numerous nieces and nephews.
