Lita Joy Tallman

Lita Joy Tallman, age 83, of 301 W. Onota Street, Munising, died with her husband Jim at her side early Saturday afternoon, January 29, 2011 at the Superior Health Haven in Munising. She was born on April 30, 1927 in Munising to the late Neil and Julia (Paris) Morrison. Lita graduated from Sacred Heart School and then from Wm.G. Mather in 1945. During WWII, Lita Joy spent her summers working for the Rationing Board. After graduation, she went to work at the Alger County Court House for John P. Carr for eight years. Lita Joy then began employment in 1955 for Peoples State Bank in the bookkeeping department. She dedicated thirty-four years to PSB and retired in April of 1989 as Vice President. Honoring her retirement, the bank celebrated Lita Tallman Day on April 28, 1989. On January 2, 1970, Lita Joy married A. James "Jim" Tallman. They enjoyed traveling the country together and spent eighteen winters at Foxwood Lake Estates in Lakeland, Florida. Lita Joy was a lifetime faithful member of Sacred Heart Church. She was a member of the National Society of Foresters and received her crystal Rosary for being a member over sixty years. Lita Joy was also a member of the Guild, a Circle, the Legion Auxiliary for over sixty-five years, and the National Federation of Business and Professional Women. Lita Joy loved to knit and many arguments took place in Ed and Gretta's home as the nieces and nephews fought over her knit socks. She also knit afghans and mittens that she shared. Along with traveling, she and Jim also enjoyed playing cards.

She is survived by her husband of over forty-one years - Jim Tallman of Munising; children - Becky (Dean) Rollins of Marinette, WI and Jim (Catherine) Tallman, Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA; five grandchildren - Jamie Tallman, Myrle Marie (Jeff) Bongiovanni, Julie (Robin) Buelteman, Chad (Amy) Detert and Scott (Colleen) Robbins; four great-grandchildren - Brandon Deter, Jordan and Zachary Buelteman and Zachary Robbins; brothers and sisters-in-law - Gretta Morrison of Munising, Bud (Rose) Tallman of Manistique, Ann Barbeau of Escanaba and Kass Peterson of Munising; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lita Joy was preceded in death by her parents, sister Annie Young and brothers Cornelius "Ed" and George "Ray" Morrison.

Services for Lita Joy will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2011. Visitation will be at the Bowerman Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The American Legion Auxiliary will have a service for her at 1:15 p.m. Father Chris Gardiner will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising in the spring. Lita Joy will be escorted by Tim Waterson, Jeff Bongiovanni, Tommy Morrison, Scott Robbins, Chad Detert and Robin Bueltemen. Honorary escorts will be members of the National Order of Foresters.
