Lois Catherine VanLandschoot "Diddy", age ninety-nine years and eleven months, of Brown's Addition passed away peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2014 with her son and granddaughter by her side at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. Diddy was born on March 29, 1914 in Munising to Anthony and Margaret Forgette. She attended Mather High School and later worked in Chicago as a housekeeper governess. After returning to Munising in 1934, she went to work at the Munising Woodenware. Diddy married Joseph A. VanLandschoot on July 24, 1939 and she was a homemaker and raised their family while Joe fished. Diddy was a lifetime member of the Sacred Heart Church. She enjoyed family, cooking, gardening, Bingo, playing cards (Ocean and 21) with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and was an avid baseball fan, who loved to watch the Detroit Tigers.

Diddy is survived by her sons - Joseph "Pepper" (Claudia) VanLandschoot of Munising, MI, Jon (Donelle) VanLandschoot of Benicia, CA, Mike "Ash" VanLandschoot of Marquette, Jim "Budd" (Betsy) VanLandschoot of Marquette; daughter - Mari (Jim) Jassak of Lake Zurich, IL; eight grandchildren - Paula (Joe) Ackerman, Tara (Roderic) Henry, Michelle (Scott) Coltson, Anastasia Heuer, Megan VanLandschoot, Ryan VanLandschoot, Kaitlin Jassak and Mark Jassak; ten great-grandchildren - Noah, Kelsea and Marissa Ackerman; Marcus, Anthony "A.J." and Nicholas Henry; and Anthony, Joel, Sarah and Mary Coltson; brother-in-law Frances "Finky" VanLandschoot; sister-in-law - Janet Lezotte; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph of 48 years, daughter Lois, sisters Neoma Forgette, Leona (Bill) Searle and Marion (Leo) Gamelin, brother Clayton Forgette and many beloved brother and sister in laws.
Diddy's family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Tendercare Health Center of Munising for the wonderful care provided her the several past years. The family suggests donations in Diddy's memory be made to the Activities Fund at Tendercare, 300 City Park Dr, Munising, MI 49862.
Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Friday, February 28, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Father Ben Paris will celebrate Diddy's funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church on Friday at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
