Louis "Louie" Joseph Passinault

Louis J. "Louie" Passinault, age 93, of Munising died Monday, October 29, 2012 at his home following a brief illness. He was born on March 5, 1919, one of fifteen children to the late Alcid and Octivia (Sovie) Passinault. Louie entered into the CCC in the mid 1930's to help his family. He married Angeline Thorson in 1939, and together they built and operated Lake Superior Grocery in Christmas until 1950 when Angeline preceded him in death. Louie entered the United States Marine Corps in 1944, he earned the Purple Heart at Iwo Jima in February of 1945 and was then honorably discharged. He was one of five Passinault brothers that served during WWII. After Louie returned home he worked doing construction for Bob Nebel before starting at Kimberly Clark in 1955, and retired from there after twenty-seven years in 1982 as a Carpenter. He married Sylvia Wing in 1953. Louie was a member of Sacred Heart Church, life member of the Marine Corps League, American Legion Post #131, a charter member of the DAV in Christmas, and was proud to have been on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in April of 2012. He was a hardworking man who enjoyed using his carpentry skills to help build homes, cabinetry, and woodworking.

Louie is survived by his and Angeline's children - Tom Passinault of Munising, Patsy Whittington of East Peoria, IL, Jim (Dianne) Passinault of Fort Valley, GA, and by his and Sylvia's children - Jeannine (Dick) Fromm of Munising and Tim Passinault of Munising; sister - Virginia Garber of Clearwater, FL; brothers - Richard (Audrey) and Lester Passinault both of Marquette; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Angeline and infant son in 1950, wife Sylvia in 2010, sons Greg and Jon, and eleven siblings.

Graveside services will be held at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising on Friday, November 2, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. where the American Legion and Vietnam Veterans Honor Guards will conduct military honors. Father Chris Gardiner will continue with committal prayers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Woods Home Care and Hospice who helped take great care of Louie.
