Louise (Bowerman) Morrissey Griffith, age 77, of 313 W. Onota Street, Munising, died on Sunday morning, January 27, 2013 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising following a week long illness. She was born on June 25, 1935, in Munising, Michigan, to the late Barney and Grace (Berube) Bowerman. Louise graduated from Wm. G. Mather High school in 1953. She married James W. Morrissey and together they raised their six children. They were married for twenty five years when he preceded her in death. Louise was a wonderful waitress. She worked for a number of supper clubs but spent most of her time at Hotel Rogers in Beaver Dam, WI. She also worked at the rectory at St. Pat's Catholic Church. She married Neil Griffith in 1989 and shortly after moved back to the U.P. While in Munising Louise worked at Horseshoe Falls where she could strike up conversations with anyone to come through the door. Her children looked to her for good advice in their times of need. Louise enjoyed BINGO, bowling, going to the casino, watching soaps, spending time with her friends, and recently Skypeing.
She is survived by her husband - Neil Griffith of Munising; children - Chris (Judy) Morrissey of Beaver Dam, WI, Pam (Frank) Esparza of Fond du Lac, WI, Danette (Rick) Bedker of Fond du Lac, Cheryl (Mike) Parks of Pawnee City, NE, Jimmy Morrissey of Fond du Lac, and Terry (Dawn) Morrissey of Fond du Lac; grandchildren - Shawn (Danielle), Megan (Ken), David, Chris (Amy), Jack, Jim (Dawn), Jessica, Jennifer, R.J. (Tricia), Michaela, Grace, Michael, Robert, Ryan, Trevor, and Lennon; fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson; brothers-and-sisters-in-law - Jack Geniesse, Allen (Sylvia) Morrissey, Annabelle Runsat, Don (Vi) Griffith, Corrine (Stanley) Pashla, Joyce (Bob) Nelson, and Ken (Ilene) Griffith; and numerous nieces and nephews. Louise is preceded in death by her parent, husband - Jim; brothers - William (Glenna), Milton "Footsie" (Jane), and Conley (Blanche) Bowerman; sister - Geraldine Geniesse; and an infant great-grandson.
Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Louise's funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Ben Paris on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Munising. Louise will be escorted by her grandsons. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in the spring.
