Munising / Escanaba
Lucille Artibee (nee LaCombe), age 98, died Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at the Munising Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 13, 1912 in Munising, the fifth of twelve children to the late John and Henrietta (nee Rabiteau) LaCombe. Cille graduated from Sacred Heart School and then Wm. G. Mather High School in 1930. She worked for a few years, first at the Beach Inn then the Busy Bee Restaurant before enrolling in the "Normal" school in Marquette, studying to be an office worker. This was followed by a job at the Munising Paper Company where she worked for several years. Lucille married Lloyd Artibee, a Munising native, on October 9, 1940 and they moved to Escanaba shortly after, where Lloyd opened his own beer distributorship company. Lucille became very successful in the homemaking arts. She was an expert cook, an expert seamstress, managed all of the landscaping, and kept their home comfortable and spotless. They purchased a 1928 Ford Model T in original and perfect running condition, and Cille became locally famous, driving this car around Escanaba. She was a longtime and loyal parishioner at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Escanaba. Lloyd preceded Lucille in death on December 28, 1986. She moved to Munising in 2000 to be closer to family and resided at Harbor View Assisted Living. While in Munising, Lucille attended Sacred Heart Church. She loved going to Church! Lucille's memory will live on in the family as she donated money to a school fund available to any LaCombe relatives enrolled in college. She will be missed!
Lucille is survived by her brother - William LaCombe of Trenary; her sister - Vivian Rousseau (nee LaCombe) of Munising; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters Margaret, Anna, Elizabeth and Marion and by her brothers Cecil, Sylvester, Francis, Arnold, and James.
