Wetmore
Margaret Jean Burke, age 71, of Sterling Heights and summer resident of Stoner Lake in Wetmore, died unexpectedly at her home in Wetmore on Monday, May 15, 2017. She was born on June 20, 1945 in Detroit to Joseph and Virginia (Krajewski) Suminski. Margaret grew up in Detroit and on July 11, 1964 at St. Jerome’s Church, she married Charles Leonard Burke and together they raised their four children. After her children went to school, Margaret went to work and retired from Chivas Industries as an assembler. She was an active member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and Altar Society in Utica. During the family’s summers spent in the Upper Peninsula, Margaret was an active attendee and volunteer at St. Rita Church in Trenary. She enjoyed gardening with her family, canning, making homemade pizza and chicken and dumplings, crocheting and working word find puzzles. Margaret and Charles were married over forty-four years when he preceded her in death on November 10, 2008.
She is survived by her children – Patricia (Walter) Klatzke of Sterling Heights, MI, Leonard C. Burke II of Wetmore, MI, Richard (Joanne) Burke of New Baltimore, MI, and Randy (Mary) Burke of Nampa, ID; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren with one on the way. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, and a grandson.
Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Sunday, May 21st from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and also at St. Rita Church on Monday, May 22nd from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Father Jacek Wtyklo will celebrate Margaret’s Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, May 22, 2017 at St. Rita in Trenary at 10:30 a.m. Graveside services will be held at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising on Monday, May 22nd at 2:30 p.m.
