Margaret (Truden) Welch, age 88, died on May 4, 2011 in Marquette MI. She was born December 12, 1922 in Munising, MI the daughter of Vincent and Mary (Knaus) Truden. She graduated from William G. Mather High School in 1940 and from Michigan State College in 1944. Margaret married Louis E. Welch December 29, 1944 in Kinston, NC. She taught Home Economics and Language Arts, Bronson, MI; Rock River High School, Eben, MI; Big Rapids High School, Big Rapids, MI; and Preble High School and Edison Junior High School, Green Bay, WI.
Margaret is survived by her son Greg (Laura Anne) of Raleigh NC, her daughter Kathy Curtis of Olney, MD and her grandson David Welch of Chicago, IL as well as many cousins.
She was a charter member of St. Bernard's Parish in Green Bay, WI and an active member in the Sodality Society and a reading tutor at the Parish school. In recent years, she was a member of St. Peter Cathedral Parish in Marquette, the Alger County Historical Society, the Bishop Baraga Association and the Michigan Loon Association. Margaret had resided at the Mill Creek Assisted Living Center in Marquette for the past three years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over fifty-nine years, Lew, who died on June 24, 2004, her parents, her sister Elizabeth Truden, her brother John Truden and his wife Betty Truden.
Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Monday, May 9 from 5:00 -8:00PM. A time of sharing of memories and stories will be at 7:00 PM A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Chris Gardiner at Sacred Heart Church in Munising on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Mathias Township Cemetery in Trenary.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, the Alger County Historical Society, or the Slovenian Association.
