Munising
Marguerite Marie Rivard, age 91, of 106 Birch Street, died under the loving care of her family and North Woods Hospice at 7:30 p.m.on Sunday, April 11, 2010. She was born on July 10, 1918 in Verner, Ontario to Donat and Perpetui (Limoges) Filiatrault. Marguerite was raised in Ontario and graduated from high school there. She married Armand Joseph Rivard on June 9, 1941 at Paroisse St. Jean Baptiste Church. They moved to Munising and Marguerite was a homemaker and a wonderful mother. Armand unexpectedly died on February 11, 1967 leaving Marguerite and three of their seven children still at home. Marguerite went to work at Hub's Super Value and she retired from there. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church where she was a Eucharistic minister, helped clean the rectory and served on the collection management team for many years. Marguerite was an honorary member of the Lady Foresters, a member of St. Anthony Guild and volunteered at the Senior Center and at the St. Vincent De Paul Society. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, card games, jigsaw puzzles, knitting, crocheting, and playing games on her computer until the wee hours of the morning. Her children nicknamed her "Scrabble Champion of the World." Marguerite loved sitting on her porch in the sunshine with her children.
She is survived by six children - Jerry (Jacqueline) Rivard of Menomonee Falls, WI, Marcy (Gary) Long of Huntington Beach, CA, Ninette Cromell of Munising, Michele Stephens of Sterling Heights, MI, John (Kathy) Rivard of St. Germaine, WI, and Paul (Gail) Rivard of Munising; eight grandchildren - Robert (Paula), Tracie, Brian, Jeff (Kim), Kevin, Daryl, James, and Christopher; three great-grandchildren - Ashley, Austin, and Brett; sister - Claire Gagnon of Sturgeon, Ontario; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents, husband Armand, son Leslie "Flip" Rivard, grandson Michael Cromell, brother Dennis Filiatrault, and sisters Yvonne Cote^, and Sr. Simone Filiatrault.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Father Chris Gardiner on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Munising. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising. Memorials in memory of Marguerite may be made to the Sacred Heart Elevator Fund.
