Maria E. Hill, age 65, of Tunteri Road in Chatham, died early Thursday morning June 28, 2007 at her home following a three year illness. She was born on August 26, 1941 to the late Walter and Elma (nee Paajanen) Koski on their way to the hospital in Munising. Maria graduated from Eben High School and then married Kenneth Hill. Together they moved to Lansing where Maria began working for Quality Dairy where she worked until she retired in 1992. After retirement Maria and Ken moved back to Chatham to the home she grew up in. She was a member of the Sion Lutheran Church and belonged to the Women of the Moose. She enjoyed snowmobiling, bowling, and spending time with her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Maria is survived by her sons - Rick (Kammy) Hill of Lansing, Ross Hill of Chatham; grandchildren - Jacob, Jessica, Jamie; great-grandchildren - James, Ceceilla, and Aiden; brother - Richard (Penny) Koski; sister-in-law - Orphie; and friend Roland Johnson. She is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, parents Walter and Elma, brother Raymond Koski, and special friend Wally Hakanen.
Maria's visitation and funeral service will be held at the Sion Lutheran Church on Sunday, July 1, 2007. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Pastor Paul D. Kelto will conduct Maria's funeral at 2:00. Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham and she will be escorted by Nub Hill, Kim Hill, Richard Koski, David Koski, Mike Hakanen, and Mike Johnson. Maria's sons would like to especially thank the nurses and staff of the Northwoods Home Health and Hospice Team.
