Marian R. DeVault

Marian R. DeVault, age 79, of Munising, MI and formerly of Chatham, MI and Auburn Hills, MI, died Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at UP Health Systems Marquette surrounded by loving family following a lengthy illness.  She was born on July 25, 1943 in Pontiac, MI to the late Armond and Ruth (Busch) Pace.  Marian grew up in Keego Harbor and graduated from West Bloomfield High School in Orchard Lake, MI in 1961.  She worked as a waitress and cashier before becoming an assistant department head at Kmart.  Marian married Jimmy Harris and together had two daughters.  She was a volunteer for Girl Scouts and helped organize cookie sales.  In 1982, Marian completed her associate degree from Oakland Community Collage majoring in accounting and minoring in management.  She was proud of her honor roll status and 3.6 GPA.  Marian worked at the headquarters for Perry Drug Store in accounting and payroll for six years, and then at Consumer Pules Inc. for three years.  She served as a Notary Public and enjoyed consulting for family and friends when they needed help with their taxes.  Marian moved to the U.P. in 2004 and lived at the Chatham Manor for many years.  She enjoyed boating, being outdoors, road trips, four-wheeling, visits to Dan Piippo’s camp, reading shipwreck history and self-help books, and watching the birds and ducks outside her window.

Marian is survived by her two daughters – Deanna (Steve) Walters of Traunik, MI and Carrie Harris of Waterford, MI; and granddaughter – Jessica Walters.  She was preceded in death by her parents Armond and Ruth; and brothers Durward and Raymond Pace.

Visitation was held on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Sion Lutheran Church in Chatham from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m.  Pastor Paul Kelto conducted Marian’s memorial service at 4:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, please make memorials in Marian's name to the Alger County Animal Shelter.

In addition, s ervices will be held for Marian on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at the New Beginning Baptist Church in Waterford Township, Michigan.  Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. and her memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jeremy Leonard officiating.
